Den poetisk-biografiske filmen på grensen mellom dokumentar- og spillefilm skisserer en figur av Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński. En ung poet som i sine dikt forteller sannheten om krigens grusomhet og meningsløshet. Baczyński har blitt en stemme av sin generasjon – mennesker som ønsket å live, elske og skape, og i stede ble tvunget til å ta opp den ujevne forsvarkampen om liv og død. Det som gjør den tragiske legenden om Baczyński enda tydeligere, er hans død i Warszawaoppstanden. Han var da 23 år gammel... Filmen av Kordian Piwowarski forteller om ham gjennom hans dikt, utsagn av vitner som kjente poeten, samt av unge folk fascinert over hans verk.
